How VR and AI Are Transforming Education | Professor Johannes Moenius at University of Redlands
Professor Johannes Moenius, who teaches global business and economics at University of Redlands, uses VR and artificial intelligence in his courses to minimize the “loss of immediacy” that occurs in online education.
“Students online don’t get the same experience as those on-ground—they can turn their cameras off and be doing other things outside the lesson,” he said. “With VR, we have the ability to bring them into a virtual classroom, so the experience for online students mirrors that of those on-ground. With the technology, we can bring back the immediacy of being in the same space while being far apart, which brings collaboration, and equalizing the playing field by giving students the same access and bridges both the economic and digital divide.”Read the full story: https://www.redlands.edu/bulldog-bites/2025/learning-for-tomorrow

- 0:48University of Redlands School of Business & Society Dean Jennifer Madden envisions a better worldFirst stepping foot on the Redlands campus this summer, Jennifer Madden saw possibility and opportunity. Now serving as the H. Jess and Donna Colton Senecal Endowed Dean of U of R’s School of Business & Society (SBS), Madden brings a wealth of experience in business, community, and education, along with a bold vision for excellence in learning. She previously served as the inaugural dean of Linfield University’s School of Business.“To join an institution whose vision surrounds meaning, impact, and joy speaks to me as a collaboration scholar,” Madden said. “SBS is about all of us being smarter than one of us, and seeing that through business, we can make society better.”Madden sees a unique opportunity to combine the school’s hallmark personal, small-class experience with the gold-standard accreditation model offered through Woodbury University, with sustainable solutions through the Presidio Center, positioning SBS to compete with larger institutions. Central to her vision is strengthening partnerships across the nonprofit, private, and government sectors to create pathways for both traditional students and working adults looking to return to school.Read more: https://www.redlands.edu/bulldog-bites/2025/envisioning-a-better-society-through-business

Watson doesn’t hesitate: it’s about beginning with bold possibilities and working towards making them real, something she refers to as “freedom dreaming,” a term coined by Robin D.G. Kelley. As the new Naslund Endowed Dean of the School of Education, Watson sees learning as the soul of social change, as faculty prepare the next generation of teachers, leaders, and practitioners who, “don’t just theorize about justice but implement it in our lifetime.”Bringing more than administrative experience, Watson leads with vision and sees Redlands as a sanctuary for justice, an ecosystem where faculty and students are already engaged in transformative work. Her priority, she said, is to shine a light on that brilliance.Read more: https://www.redlands.edu/bulldog-bites/2025/forward-towards-bolder-horizons
