SCIAC Friday Spotlight Series

REDLANDS, Calif. – University of Redlands Women's Golfer Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) was selected in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Friday Spotlight Series.

Jugar just completed her fourth season with the Bulldogs as she finished as the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) national runner-up in Florida. In her four seasons she helped guide the women's golf program to fourth, second, and sixth-place finishes in the three seasons the NCAA held the National Championships.

She finished 2022-23 with a total score of 1695 across 23 rounds for a round average of 73.69, the second lowest in program history and only 0.08 off her program record 73.61 in 2021-22. She also holds the fourth lowest (74.20, 2019-20) and the sixth lowest (75.29, 2020-21) season averages. For her career she played a total of 70 rounds with a score of 5184 and an average of 74.057, the lowest in program history by 1.217 strokes.

She was named 1st Team All-SCIAC this season for the third-straight year (no All-SCIAC due to COVID-19 in 2020). She also earned the program's first SCIAC Character Award.

Other postseason recognition included the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-West Region selection for the third time and a WGCA 1st Team All-American selection for the fourth consecutive season. She became the second Bulldog to be a four-time All-American, joining Caroline Ordian (2015-18).

At the California State Intercollegiate last September and SCIAC No. 2 in April, Jugar shot a 68 and a 67, the seventh and third lowest single-round scores in program history. The 67 was the most recent of three career 67's as she ranks as the third best single-round performing golfer in program history.

Her two-round 137 (70-67) at SCIAC No. 2 was the second lowest total in program history as she became the second best performing golfer across two rounds. Only two weeks after that record two-round performance, Jugar was named the University of Redlands' Frank Serrao Senior Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is given to the top male and female student-athletes each year for their academic achievement, athletic success, and community involvement.

The award is named after former Head Football Coach and educator Frank Serrao. Jugar earned recognition thanks to a 3.77 grade point average (GPA) as she completed her Environmental Science degree. She earned Magna Cum Laude honors and the 2023 Roger Tomlinson Undergraduate Award for Excellence in GIS. She also participated in Redlands' Summer Science Research Program as she worked with the San Bernardino National Forest – Bearpaw Reserve. She helped to analyze wildlife populations and vegetation succession after the 2020 El Dorado Fire by using GIS remote sensing, wildlife camera installation, ArcGIS Field Maps, and measuring canopy coverage, height, slope, aspect, soil moisture, basal area, and tree diameter at breast height (DBH).

She plans to attend graduate school to research in the field of Environmental Science.
